Skin Needling (Microneedling) in Perth: What It Is and Why We Love It

Skin needling, also known as microneedling, is one of our most popular treatments for skin that needs a little extra renewal. At Lush Skin & Body, we use the Dermapen 4 and infuse every treatment with Hyla Active, our hyaluronic acid.

What Is Skin Needling (Microneedling)?

Skin needling uses a pen-style device with fine needles to create tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin. Your body reads these as a signal to start repairing, which kicks off its natural healing and regeneration process. Over time, this supports smoother, firmer and more even-looking skin.

Why We Use the Dermapen 4 in Perth

The Dermapen 4 is a motorised device that lets your therapist adjust the depth to suit each area, so we can treat delicate skin and more textured areas properly.

Where Can We Treat With Skin Needling?

  • Face

  • Neck

What Can Skin Needling Help With?

It’s suitable for most skin types, and is commonly used for:

  • Ageing concerns such as fine lines and loss of firmness

  • Pigmentation and uneven skin tone

  • Enlarged pores

  • Scarring, including acne scarring

Results vary from person to person, and most concerns respond best to a course of treatments. We’ll talk through what’s realistic for your skin at your consultation.

Why We Infuse Every Skin Needling Treatment With Hyla Active

What to Expect After Skin Needling

Downtime
Your skin will usually look and feel flushed for up to 72 hours. Many people describe it as feeling like mild sunburn, though some don’t experience this at all, and that’s normal too.

As your skin heals, it’s normal for it to feel sensitised and to shed, with mild to moderate flaking, dryness or roughness. Some clients also experience a purge, which means more breakouts than usual for a short time. Less commonly, you may notice bruising or a graze-like look. Pigmentation can also darken before it flakes away.

Please don’t pick or pull at peeling skin, as this can affect healing.

Aftercare

  • Avoid anything that heats the skin, such as vigorous exercise and saunas, as this can intensify downtime

  • Avoid chlorinated swimming pools

  • Stay out of the sun for 3-5 days and apply SPF daily

  • Avoid reintroducing active ingredients for 5-7 days

  • Use the products your therapist recommends for your skin

Skin Needling FAQs

Is skin needling the same as microneedling?

Yes. Skin needling and microneedling are two names for the same treatment. At Lush Skin & Body, we perform it using the Dermapen 4.

What does skin needling do to the skin?

The Dermapen 4 creates tiny micro-channels in the skin. Your body responds by kicking off its natural healing process, which supports renewal and regeneration over time. Infusing with Hyla Active during treatment also adds a boost of hydration.

Does skin needling hurt?

Most people find it very tolerable. You’ll feel a vibrating or scratchy sensation, and some areas are more sensitive than others.

How long does a skin needling session take?

Appointment times vary, but you can usually allow 40 to 60 minutes in total. This includes your consultation, cleanse, the skin needling itself, a cooling sheet mask, and a relaxing scalp or décolletage massage to finish.

How many treatments will I need?

It depends on your skin and your concerns. Many clients see the best results from a course of treatments spaced a few weeks apart, with maintenance sessions after that. We would usually recomend 3-6 sessions 4 weeks apart. Your therapist will outline a plan at your consultation.

What is the downtime?

Your skin will usually look flushed for up to 72 hours, and you may notice mild to moderate flaking and dryness as it heals. Most people describe the feeling as similar to mild sunburn, though some don’t experience this at all. Your therapist will talk you through what to expect for your skin.

How should I care for my skin after treatment?

For the first few days, avoid vigorous exercise, saunas and chlorinated pools, as heat can intensify downtime. Stay out of the sun for 3-5 days and apply SPF daily. Wait 5-7 days before reintroducing active ingredients, and use the products your therapist recommends. Please don’t pick at flaking skin.

Is a breakout normal after skin needling?

It can be. Some clients experience a short-term purge, with more breakouts than usual, as the skin renews. If you’re concerned, contact us and your therapist can advise.

When will I see results?

Some clients notice a fresh, hydrated glow soon after treatment. Changes in texture, tone and firmness build gradually as your skin heals and regenerates, so results continue to improve over the weeks following treatment. Results vary from person to person.

Can I add a booster to my skin needling?

Yes. Our Préime Skin Boosters can be added to your skin needling, and they’re also available with NanoFractional RF and peels. They can’t be booked on their own.

Which booster is right for me?

It depends on your main concern. TXA is our pigmentation-focused option, Skin Lift targets firmness and elasticity, and the PDRN and Pure Exosome boosters focus on repair and skin health. Your therapist will help you choose.

Who shouldn’t have skin needling?

Skin needling isn’t suitable for everyone. It’s generally avoided with active skin infections, cold sores, or certain skin conditions, during pregnancy, and for some people taking particular medications. We’ll go through your health and skin history at your consultation to make sure it’s right for you.

Can I have skin needling on areas other than my face?

Yes. Along with the face, we treat the neck, décolletage and body.
